I know there are many wonderful CD series out there to teach classical music to kids, but I have found a gold mine with the Maestro Classics!! Let me tell you why using Prokofiev‘s Peter and the Wolf.
1) The CD starts out telling the story using the classical music. Then it adds a short biography of the composer. Then it adds commentary by the orchestra conductor. And there are other features as well.
2) Maestro Classics can be found at the local library!
3) At the Maestro Classics official website there are FREE educational materials including curriculum guides for each CD and grade level (1-5) music lesson plans. For a price, there is a website (AJourneyThroughLearning) that sells lapbooks that go with each CD as well.
4) My kids LOVE listening to these, especially my son. He would tell you that his favorite CD is Mike Mulligan and his Steam Shovel.
And HERE is a listing of ALL titles.
