Every now and then I come across some “new to me” information that everyone else in the world seems to know. This month it’s been…

Have you ever used the stuff? Do you know all of this?

I was told, “Honey! Don’t use all that expensive floor cleaner on your wooden floors! Mix 1 cup of vinegar with water and mop.”

I was told, “If you feel a cold coming on, drink 1 Tablespoon of vinegar.”

I was told, “Use vinegar and dry soap and you can get the yellow circles from deodorant out of white T-shirts.”

I was told, “You have heartburn? Take a swig of vinegar.”

I was told, “If you have a sprained ankle or sore muscles, soak a brown paper bag in vinegar and then wrap it around the painful area. It’ll take the pain away.”

Hi. I’m new here on earth. Since when has vinegar had such diverse uses?

I thought it was just a part of my turnip greens or something to explode a homemade volcano.

  1. I use vinegar for cleaning…I have a spray bottle with vinegar/water that I use everyday to clean counters, etc in the kitchen. I have also used it in my laundry occasionally to get a good clean rinse. I don’t use fabric softener, but you can put some in your fabric softener dispenser to get your clothes super rinsed. Oh and I use it on floors too! —Sherri

  2. Vinegar can be used to rinse your hair after shampooing. Okay, Southerners, what do you call the bulb that grows under the turnip greens?

      • NO NO NO Southerners from South Carolina call it a “turnip root”. You have turnip plants with turnip greens and turnip roots. That’s what my mother always called it, and remember she grew up on a farm in SC. Daddy and I have been arguing about it for almost 50 Years! I’ve never even heard of a hosepipe.

      • I just called my MIL about this. I’m afraid she agrees with me. It’s a turnip. But I cam ask some of the other “old timers” around here and see what they say. 🙂

  3. I use vinegar to clean my whole house. It stinks at first, but once it dries there is no smell. Also I use it to condition my hair after washing it with baking soda (i do the “no poo”). It’s my fabric softener and also rinse aid in my dishwasher. I use it for tons of stuff. It helps relieve itch as well. Chad uses Apple Cider Vinegar for his heartburn. It’s great stuff 🙂

  4. Lol…..you are so funny…I told you vinegar is a household staple….cleaning and good for about health issue…….glad you got you a gallon …..IT WORKS…..

  5. It can remove the hard water stains from a coffee pot. 🙂

    btw, I was told:
    – (tried, and believe) : a spoonful of dill pickle juice (vinegar, right?) gets rid of heartburn. Seems like that would taste better. 🙂
    – you can add a bit of essential oil (e.g., peppermint oil) to your vinegar glass cleaner to make it smell a little better.

  6. I use vinegar in the dishwasher. Just a splash in the door and then close it up. Not in place of the soap, but in place of that stuff that is suppose to make the dishes sparkle. My friend says they spray some vinegar in the air after cooking seafood (or maybe all food that leaves a heavy scent).

  7. You are not new on earth…..just not old enough to know all the old time remedies …..lol….see I am alot older…..

  8. Jerrold

Well it looks like vinegar is the “cure all” for most everything except using it in my car’s gas tank……tee-hee!
