If we are to experience God, then we must be in communication with Him. How does He speak? Rarely does the Lord speak audibly these days because He has already given us His Word. So to commune with God, I must pray and speak to Him, then I prayerfully read His words back to myself, and then pray in Spirit and in Truth back to Him.
The Bible must become a book with which you and I experience God. Haven’t you ever read scripture that seems “old?” But then you read it again and an entire new lesson is brought forth from the words? That’s God speaking to you! What power there is in these pages!
The Bible is a book that can take something dead and bring it back to life.
It’s a book that can take rebellion and transform it into peace.
Have you ever pondered the verses in Luke 2 about Jesus growing up and maturing? All the Bible tells us is that: Jesus kept increasing in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men. (verse 52)
I have prayed for years that God would help me to grow as Jesus did, in favor with God and men. I mess up with other people ALL the time. And He revealed Proverbs 3: 1-3 to me this past weekend.
“My son, do not forget my teaching, But let your heart keep my commandments; For length of days and years of life And peace they will add to you. Do not let kindness and truth leave you; Bind them around your neck, Write them on the tablet of your heart. So you will find favor and good repute in the sight of God and man.” ~ Proverbs 3:1-3
“Do not forget my teaching!” God says. Don’t cease to care about reading the Bible. Make it a priority!
“Keep My Commandments!” God says. That word for keep means a guard. I have to guard God’s commandments in my life. I must focus on them and obey them.
“Be kind! Be Truthful!” God says. We must constantly remember the mercy and grace that is extended towards us through the death of Jesus…and then show that same kindness, truth, and mercy to others.
And the promise is…IF we do this, then you will find favor and good repute in the sight of God and man. So that is what Jesus did. He didn’t forget God’s teaching. He kept all of God’s commands; and was kind and truthful to everyone around Him.
Starting in about 2 weeks I’ll be beginning an online Bible study on God’s Wisdom for Moms. If you haven’t clicked on the “Follow Me” button yet, please do so you don’t miss any of the lessons.
And if you don’t choose to be a part of this study, then I hope you will choose to be in God’s word in 2013. Make it a priority and watch God do miraculous things inside of you!!
