Now He was telling them a parable to show that at all times they ought to pray and not to lose heart. ~ Luke 18:1

pray before an event

Ballgames, dentist and doctor appointments, recitals or concerts, hospital visits, oral reports…

Our children are involved in many different activities and events. If your calendar is like mine, the boxes become filled pretty quickly.

Nobody likes to endure pain or discomfort. Sometimes our kids have to endure broken bones or face an audience that awaits their talents. Nerves jump and butterflies flitter in their stomachs.

What about fear of the unknown? Is it possible your child might be facing the filling of a cavity? or maybe you and your child are awaiting even harder news, such as dealing with a disease.

Perhaps your child doubts his/her ability to catch the ball, or sing the solo? You know God has gifted them with amazing abilities, but maybe they don’t have confidence yet?

You can help your child pray about events on the calendar and help them place their trust in the God who gave them gifts and abilities, and who provides them with everything they need.

How to Pray Before an Event:

Before an event, ask your child how she is feeling. You know your child. You know whether of not he will need to deal with sportsman-like attitudes or doubts.

Help your child to pray for:

  1. God to be glorified through all words and actions. (1 Peter 4:11)
  2. The ability to do well. (1 Kings 2:3)
  3. The others involved in the event. (James 5:16)
  4. The ability to remember. (John 14:26)
  5. Safety. (Psalm 91)
  6. Confidence. (Hebrews 10:34-36)
  7. Graciousness in doing well, or when failure happens. (Colossians 4:6)

Prepare to Pray!

Sometimes in the midst of an event, our kids become anxious. Teach your kids to pray one word: “Jesus”. When the crazies are going on – Jesus. When pain hurts – Jesus. When about to walk on stage – Jesus.

He’s all they need.
