God has so many wonderful names! Some are very near and dear to our hearts. Others might sound strange and different. But each and every name of God mentioned throughout the scriptures tells us just a little bit more about our Creator. Please take five minutes out of your busy day and discover something new about the Lord who loves you.
I don’t know about you, but I sin…a lot of the time. Scripture calls it “being in the flesh” when we are supposed to be “walking in the Spirit.” Our flesh fights against us. (Galatians 5:17) If we keep our eyes on Jesus, then we will have victory. But as soon as we take our eyes off of the Prince of Peace, and we look at the chaos, think selfish thoughts, or allow fear of the waves of life to wash over us, then we begin to sink and fail.
The problem with many Christians is that we want to be saved, but don’t want to fight in the war that comes after. Paul is specific in telling us to “put on the whole armor of God,” and “be strong in the Lord.” Life is a battle. Every day there will be a fight. If we are not ready, then our flesh will overtake us.
God is our Jehovah Nissi, The Lord is my Banner. During times of war, a soldier was given the task of keeping the banner of his company raised. It was used as a symbol to the enemy, a rallying point for troops, or an indicator of marching ranks.
Reader, are you in the ranks? Are you with those who are marching forward into battle every day against the enemy of the flesh? Are you following your Leader’s Banner?
A Christian’s banner is red. Blood red. And if we daily put our armor on, rally with others who are marching, and raise our banners high, then, Reader, NOTHING can stop us! Victory is a SURE thing! (Deuteronomy 20:3-4)
And be warned: the enemy will either fight or flee when it sees the Banner of God raised. But no matter if we live in battle, or die fighting, eternal life is ours.
